Philips Unleashes 1000Hz Gaming Monitor — PC Gamers Stunned

Philips has introduced the Evnia 27M2N5500XD, a 27‑inch gaming monitor designed for competitive players. It supports a 500Hz refresh rate at 1440p resolution and can reach 1,000Hz when the resolution is reduced to 720p. This makes it faster on paper than the recently announced 720Hz OLED gaming monitors from ASUS and ViewSonic.

Shared Panel Technology and Performance Focus

The Evnia 27M2N5500XD recently appeared in China alongside the AOC Agon AGP277QK. Both models use the same dual‑mode panel, which is unsurprising as AOC and Philips belong to the same parent company. These monitors prioritize motion clarity and low input lag rather than maximum image sharpness. Most users are expected to run the display at 500Hz with a 2560 × 1440 resolution, while the 1,000Hz 720p mode targets players who value raw speed above all else.

Panel Type and Image Quality

The monitor uses a high‑contrast IPS panel rather than OLED. It offers a 1ms gray‑to‑gray response time and a 2,000:1 static contrast ratio. This combination is intended to maintain stable brightness and deliver noticeably better contrast than older IPS panels, while still ensuring very fast pixel transitions.

Each unit is factory‑calibrated to achieve a Delta E value of less than 2, providing accurate colors out of the box. The monitor also carries VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, giving it basic HDR capabilities. However, it does not include local dimming or very high peak brightness, so its HDR performance will be limited compared to more advanced HDR displays.

Availability

Philips has not yet announced pricing or an official release date. Even so, a 27‑inch display capable of 500Hz at 1440p and 1,000Hz at 720p ranks among the fastest gaming monitors revealed so far. Competitive gamers who prioritize responsiveness and motion clarity over resolution are likely to find it particularly appealing.
