Iconic horde shooters like Left 4 Dead are rare, but it appears that the creator of the hit game is returning to the genre. Sony has announced a partnership with Bad Robot Games, the video game division of J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot, to publish a new four-player cooperative title. The studio’s Chief Creative Officer, Mike Booth, who was the designer of Left 4 Dead, will direct the project.

New Cooperative Game in Development

The new game does not yet have a public title. The announcement mainly highlights the partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bad Robot Games rather than specific gameplay details or story elements.

Bad Robot Games on the Partnership

“Partnering with Sony Interactive Entertainment allows us to bring our new IP to life, with an expansive vision for this new universe,” said Anna Sweet, CEO of Bad Robot Games. “With the support of PlayStation, we hope to deliver a bold, innovative experience that is truly special for players. I could not be more excited that Mike Booth is at the creative helm, crafting a cooperative adventure that will lead to unforgettable moments with friends.”

First Internally Developed Title

This cooperative experience will be Bad Robot Games’ first internally developed release. It is not yet clear how far along development is, or whether the title will follow a live-service model similar to Helldivers 2 or focus on a more traditional, campaign-driven structure like Left 4 Dead.

Sony’s Perspective

“Their unique creative voice and passion for innovating across all forms of interactive entertainment perfectly aligns with SIE’s mission to craft experiences that resonate deeply with players,” said Christian Svensson, VP and Head of 2P/3P Content Ventures & Strategic Initiatives at Sony Interactive Entertainment. “We can’t wait for gamers to step into the world they’ve been building.”

Planned Platforms

Although details about the project remain limited, Sony and Bad Robot Games have confirmed target platforms. The upcoming cooperative game will be released on PlayStation 5 and PC. Prices and any regional pricing details in USD, EUR, and INR have not yet been announced.
